Dead silence. For some, it is an opportunity to enjoy peace and quiet. For others, it is simply paralyzing, for different reasons, usually depending on one's personality. For Con, it was both. She was a tough bird, but from some of the things she said or did, one could easily discover that she was truly paranoid. The vulture had not been too fond of the company of an entire flock, but if there was one thing she absolutely could not stand, it was complete loneliness.
She fidgeted uncomfortably on the branch, having just woken up. She scanned the area with her keen eyes, only to find nothing but charred trees and the wasteland they stood on, not to mention thick fog blocking out the sky and the distant landscape. Perhaps something or someone was there that she hadn't seen yet. Just the thought of being watched made her twitch.
Con scaled the branch with her talons until she had reached the tip. She elongated her neck, allowing the so-called mane to show, slim feathers bouncing as she moved her head. Seeing nothing above, the bird peered at the ground. Still nothing.. wait, what was that? She squinted her small brown eyes, and there, swimming in the murk, was a swamp rat. Typical. She hunched her shoulders, watching the small creature carefully. Had it not noticed her yet? Or was it just stupid? Nevertheless, it had just become easy prey.

Alagos soared over the treetops of the Anore's territory. It was a foggy day but Alagos' sharp eyes were able to pierce the fog to some extent. So far nothing interesting had caught the Harpy Eagle's eye. He had awakened earlier that day with no real goal in mind. He had been aimlessly flying over the territory for the majority of the morning.
He stayed close to the treetops, scanning the ground for signs of life. Eventually his sharp eyes were caught by a fellow predator. The bird in question was on a branch, avidly watching something that appeared to be swimming. Prey, more than likely. The predator watching the swimming form did seem intent enough.
Intrigued, Alagos aimed for the branch above the bird. He landed on the branch without a problem.
"Hello there."

Eyes fixed on the rat, she steadied herself, about ready to leap off the branch, until-
"Hello there."
With a few loud squawks, Con beat her wings wildly, as if she were trying to scare off whatever made the noise. She continued to do this for a few seconds, then quickly repositioned herself on the branch, glaring up at the harpy eagle who had landed on the one above her's. What was he trying to do, scare her to death? By the look of Con's puffed out feathers and narrowed eyes, anybeast could clearly see that she was distraught. Still, she wasn't the most intimidating thing ever, simply because of her size. Curse her little chicken body!
"What's the big idea?" she spat. She moved her attention back to the rat.. or, wherever the rat used to be, for now it was gone. She assumed that her squawking scared it off. Wait, no, it wasn't her fault, it was his. Con looked up once again at the eagle, with an even sharper glare than she had given him before.
"You just had to go and scare it off, didn't you?" hissed the angry vulture. Oh, how quick she was to assume.

He watched the fellow predator's reaction to his arrival with bemusement. If he wasn't so polite, he may laughed. Now she was glaring at him but Alagos only stared back calmly. He hadn't meant to startle her. He just wanted some conversation.
"What's the big idea?"
"Big idea?" he echoed a bit blankly, "I don't have any big ideas." He stopped for a moment, tilting his head to the side before continuing, "I have rather small ones."
However, when she looked at him with an even sharper glare, Alagos was a bit taken aback.
"You just had to go and scare it off, didn't you?"
She sounded unaccountably angry. He didn't have the faintest clue as to why. He peered down to the swamp, where he had seen her looking before.
"Scare what off? I don't see anything." He paused, considering, "I'm Alagos." He waited expectantly for her to reply.
