Magic on the Eighth Continent is very straightforward. It is based solely on elements. Each element has three powers that you can buy from the Shop.
Each character starts powerless - however, they still have an element. Their eyes are the color of their element, but may vary in shades (meaning, a fire character could have maroon or bright red eyes). Later, you can buy more powers.
Characters may have a second element, but this must be purchased. If they have two elements, they will have differently colored eyes. Third elements are not allowed.
You can crossbreed major elements to get a minor element, or you can buy one from the shop. If your character has two major elements, you can mix them so they have one minor element instead.
There are four major elements: fire, earth, air, and water. Fire and earth are most common in the Anore flock. Air and water are most common in the Ithila flock.
Each element has three powers, and sometimes a fourth one which is rarer. Only a limited amount of rare powers are allowed, usually because they are extremely powerful.

Fire » Coalclaw: Your claws will glow like coals and be just as hot.
» Witchlight: A small flame that follows you around as a light. It can give burns to those who aren't a fire element but can't spread.
» Fiendfyre: Use fire that is impossible to put out except by another fire element, or earth and water working together.
» Bloodlust (rare): You will have inexplicable periods of extreme rage whenever you get angry or during battle. If you get injured they will barely notice it. Beware: using rage can cause your character to be mortally injured because they do not stop fighting, it is also very dangerous to others.
Earth (may have green OR brown eyes) » Burrow: Create a tunnel under the earth to fly or walk through. Handy when in danger.
» Gargoyle: You can harden yourself into a gargoyle to ward off attacks. Not for use against heavy crushing or anything that could shatter rock - this will kill you. May cause stiff joints.
» Camoflauge: Blend in perfectly with your surroundings.
Air (white or silver) » Oxygen: Never be short of breath.
» Mindspeech: Communicate in a two-way conversation with other characters without speaking. Will fade more and more the farther apart you are.
» The Summons: Communicate with air easily. It can bring you things, tell you what is happening elsewhere, and even carry you so you don't have to fly. However, it will not attack others, only defend you.
Water » Changeling: Shapeshift into anything your character so desires - but the longer they stay in a certain form, the harder it is to change back.
» Waterwalker: Allows you to walk, sit, lay, or generally act like a god when being on water.
» Mermaid: You will be able to communicate with fish and grow gills if you go underwater.

Metal ( Fire x Earth ) » Tinman: Similar to Stoneskin. You can turn into a statue of either solid or hollow metal for short periods of time, staying this way for very long will result in stiffness. Dents will result in injuries when back in living form.
» Midas: Turn things you choose into gold or another precious metal. Living things will not stay this way for long.
» Weld: Twist metal into various shapes and forms using heat.
Poison (rare) ( Fire x Earth ) » Bane: Turn water into acid to burn your foe.
» Tempter: Be irresistible to others, but at the same time cause poisonous effects if they touch you.
» Paralyzer: Be able to temporarily freeze things, but will not stop time and you can freeze a max of up to 3 objects at a time.
Ice ( Water x Earth ) » Immune: Be immune to emotion and pain temporarily and sickness eternally.
» Surefoot: Never find your claws slipping out from under you - that is, never fall unless directly impacted by another character.
» Icewall: Be immune to mind reading and block telepathy when standing between characters using mindspeech.
» Freeze (rare): Cause time freezes to do things much to your delight (only lasts for one post per thread, may not be that character's first post in that thread - this is to prevent people from making a thread simply to have a time freeze).
Flora (rare) (may have any vivid color for eyes except red, black, & brown) ( Water x Earth ) » Bend: Allows a contortionist-like effect - stretch to almost a freaky degree.
» Thorn: Grow thorns for short periods of time off of yourself and other objects.
» Grow: Speed up growth of living things and let them reach a massive size.
» Pandora's Box (rare): Though you'll be unable to directly heal, temporarily rejuvenating the dead and dying.
Spirit (may also have white eyes) ( Air x Earth ) » Poltergeist: Become invisible. Does not allow you to walk through objects. You may pick up things but you'll be considerably weakened.
» Ghost: Walk through objects.
» Hypnotizer: Be able to "wish" things into truth and influence others to do what you want.
Void ( Air x Fire ) » Gravity: Drag down others in midflight.
» Anti: Become a vacuum to magic. Store it inside of yourself and use the same power against others. Stored powers last for only one thread.
» Teleport: Disappear from one place and appear in another.
Energy (gold eyes are rarer than simple yellow, but acceptable) ( Fire x Water ) » Gift: Give others energy or wield the power to take it away from them. However, does not work to the degree of actually killing them.
» Electric: Never run out of energy, but be careful: resting too much will make you bounce off the walls (we're not joking here).
» Powerspeech: Amplify your voice to reach as far as you desire. The bonus? Only those you specifically select can hear.
Illusion (may have creamy eyes or pale blue / purple) ( Water x Air ) » Dreamkeeper: Visit and influence the dreams of others, whether they're daydreams or nightmares.
» Delusion: Foes will suddenly find themselves wondering what's happening, and asking questions that are otherwise obvious.
» Mirage: Make it seem as if objects are there, though they are nothing more than an illusion.
