A canyon cut deep into the landscape neighbors the treacherous mountains known as the Beaks, in addition to the desert known as Goldenground. Redgorge belongs to the mountain birds that call this territory home. The name comes from the deep reddish coloring of the stone walls that rise above the narrow, winding river below. For the most part, the flock takes refuge in the cracks, caves and crevasses that were created long ago by a restless earth. There are few plants wedged into the rock, and only the hardiest survive the harsh territory.
